Official ISKCON Documents

Direction of Management

On July 28, 1970, His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada dictated a document outlining his instructions for managing the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. It was written in legal format and Signed by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in front of witnesses at the ISKCON temple in Los Angeles,CA. It was hailed by Rupanuga Prabhu at the first meeting of the GBC in 1971 as "the Constitution of ISKCON". Srila Prabhupada referred to the document many times and in 1975 insisted that it be included in the documents for the non-profit papers sumitted to the State of California for ISKCON, LA.

The document is notable because it describes the main duties for the Governing Body Commission for the International Society for Krsna Consciousness as being "The purpose of the Governing Body Commission is to act as the instrument for the execution of the Will of His Divine Grace."

It also includes a system for the election of the GBC (Governing Body Commission) members by the temple presidents, gives the terms for serving as a GBC member, states that temple presidents can only be removed with the consent of temple members, and describes the main duties for the GBC members. ISKCON INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR KRISHNA CONSCIOUSNESS
Founder-Acharya: His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
Vrindaban July 9th 1977

To All G.B.C., and Temple Presidents

Dear Maharajas and Prabhus,

Please accept my humble obeisances at your feet. Recently when all of the GBC members were with His Divine Grace in Vrndavana, Srila Prabhupada indicated that soon He would appoint some of His senior disciples to act as ritvik - representative of the acarya, for the purpose of performing initiations, both first initiation and second initiation. His Divine Grace has so far given a list of eleven disciples who will act in that capacity:
His Holiness Kirtanananda Swami
His Holiness Satsvarupa dasa Gosvami
His Holiness Jayapataka Swami
His Holiness Tamala Krsna Gosvami
His Holiness Hrdayananda Gosvami
His Holiness Bhavananda Gosvami
His Holiness Hamsaduta Swami
His Holiness Ramesvara Swami
His Holiness Harikesa Swami
His Grace Bhagavan dasa Adhikari
His Grace Jayatirtha dasa Adhikari

In the past Temple Presidents have written to Srila Prabhupada recommending a particular devotee's initiation. Now that Srila Prabhupada has named these representatives, Temple Presidents may henceforward send recommendation for first and second initiation to whichever of these eleven representatives are nearest their temple. After considering the recommendation, these representatives may accept the devotee as an initiated disciple of Srila Prabhupada by giving a spiritual name, or in the case of second initiation, by chanting on the Gayatri thread, just as Srila Prabhupada has done.

The newly initiated devotees are disciples of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad,
the above eleven senior devotees acting as His representative.
After the Temple President receives a letter from these representatives giving the spiritual name or the thread, he can perform the fire yajna in the temple as was being done before. The name of a newly initiated disciple should be sent by the representative who has acceted him or her to Srila Prabhupada, to be included in His Divine Grace's "Initiated Disciples" book.

Hoping this finds you all well.

Your servant, Tamala Krsna Gosvami
Secretary to Srila Prabhupada

Note:

July 22, 1974 - Upon discovering the disobedience of the GBC to implement His 1970 Direction Of Management order (DOM), Srila Prabhupada issues a second order for the DOM in his "TOPMOST URGENCY" LETTER, which states:

Srila Prabhupada: "There shall be a Governing Board Committee of trustees appointed by the Founder-Acharya His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad according to the document "Direction Of Management" dated July 28, 1970." ["TOPMOST URGENCY" LETTER]

In '74 Srila Prabhupad authored a document and gave emphasis TOPMOST URGENCY. The document was kept hidden for decades. Those Topmost Urgent instructions were never executed. ALL of SP's Followers need to study this document & act to see that these instructions are finally carried out.

In 1970 Srila Prabhupad wrote the Direction of Management - In 1974 He wrote amendments for ISKCON temples - that were never implemented - yet on the document is the emphasis " TOPMOST URGENCY ", the most emphasis of any order he gave (that we know of) - To today that order has not been executed.

The issue of BBT meddling

Mr. Tapana Misra das. My tolerance and patience with all. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!!

I am convinced that Srila Prabhupada did not write transcendental signed legal documents so we may not use them in courts if needed. You really think that Srila Prabhupada was "spinning his wheels" for nothing? He knew rascals would try to destory his movement, so he took measures so sincere people may protect his movement via legal documents and courts.

Now, if you don't have the ksatrya (fearless) genes to expose and take to court rascals in Srila Prabhupada's movement as with the facility he gave us to do so, then at least do not defend the rascals but totally neglect them.

Srila Prabhupada made it clear that there are envious people in the dress of devotees in his movement and ordered., expose them or totally neglect them. Maybe you dod not know this.

Sincerely,
Mahatma dasa
