1) EX-CHILDREN MOBILIZING

dear pada, I have spoken with several gurukulis here in Alachua. The lawsuit and other events have mobilized them. They want the same objective in many cases. Such an idea, for a clean sweep and new elected leadership by lay devotees, would be supported strongly by most youth, who now hold not only a $400,000,000 threat but the threat of many many more joining the lawsuit unless they get some satisfaction --- change of leadership, reparations to the abused, and no more money and power games with a supposedly saintly movement.

NKD

[PADA: Good. The cavalry has finally arrived for these abused ex-children in the shape of a Texas sized cowboy with a very big lasso, i.e. Windle Turley lawsuit. And so now all of us can realize that their plight is not (!) some minor joking "politics," as some parents and most GBC have said all along, rather these ex-children are the victims of some of the most serious and heinous of criminal behaviors possible. It is time for these ex-children and their parents to gather together to make a final battle to get rid of these abuser tyrants once and for all. Let's get everybody in the boxing ring, not only some of the ex-kids and their lawyers. And let us deal with what seems to be simultaneously the guru poisoner sabha as well? So, try to get the ex-children and some of the serious adults to gather together and map out a strategy to remove the boil and heal the body. We are ready to help. In sum, lets all moblize right now.]

2) GBC LIST?

Dear Puranjana dasaji

Hare Krsna. Dandavats. All glories to Srila Prabhupada and his sincere followers. Thanks for putting me on your e-mail list. Is there any resource available to look under a particular (cheating, criminal etc) so-called guru, or sannyasai or GBC's name and find a list of stuff against him? For example is there any where I can look under the name Bhakti caru and come up with a list of the stuff the guy's been up to since he joined (his name just off the top off my head.) Any how, keep up the good work! (as I know you wil) (exposing these scumbags.)

best wishes JD

[PADA: I do not know of such a resource, but it is a great idea.]

3) BRAHMANANDA IN MONEY FIGHT?

Subject: Re: The Nirjala Ekadasi Lawsuit
Date: 06/14/2000 Author: Bhaktisiddhartha Dasanudas

Brahmananda got himself into other legal trouble in Florida recently when he allegedly forged the signature of the temple president of a Gaudiya temple in Miami to fraudulently obtain a retail permit in the name of that organization. He also approached me to try to run the same scam, by offering to provide financial support for preaching in return for detailed information on my organization's federal tax exemption. The City of Miami began a fraud investigation and may have charged Brahmananda over this incident. He and his brother and business partner Gargamuni have disappeared from the South Florida area and no longer answer their phone or email. Recently they contacted the Prabhupada Sankirtan Center in New York about some business, no doubt to try and pull the same kind of scam. No one I know is aware of their current whereabouts.

[PADA: Ummm, that is why we at pada do not endorse devotees getting involved in illegal actions, if not drug using and dealing, forgery and what not. We hear about these "devotee rip-off scam stories" all the time. Worse, the "devotees" often rip off other devotees, sort of like crooks in jail fighting over a pack of stolen cigarettes. What is the problem? Just go and get a job and quit with all of these scams. Over here in the San Francisco Bay Area, there are millions of jobs. They will give you a $500 bonus if you just show up for work. Be honest and you will be in less anxiety. Oh, did I forget, one can't take one's hard earned (or hard scammed) money along at the time of departure from this body. We are all going to die no matter what, and even with all of of our hair brained scams, our bodies will end next to each others in a body bag at the mortuary. Oh, excuse me, my body bag will be made of a cheap plastic garbage bag and someone else's might be made of very expensive silk threads. Who cares?]

4) FWD: NARAYANA MAHARAJA'S TEMPLE IN VIOLENT CLASH WITH VILLAGERS (?)
(from Indian newspaper)

Villagers, sadhus clash over tenancy rights of Gods
DAVINDER KUMAR

ISHAPUR (MATHURA), JUNE 13: Gods are in police custody here. They have been provided protection from their warring devotees who are drawing blood to ensure that only their favourite God finds a place inside the temple, a breathtaking marble masterpiece worth Rs 1.5 crore at Ishapur, near Mathura.

The battle over the Gods took an ugly turn on June 7, when the villagers, armed with canes and traditional weapons, clashed with sadhus of Gaudiya Math residing in the temple premises. The incident left several injured, one sanyasi sustaining serious head injuries. Now two police constables guard the Rishi Durvasa ashram in Ishapur, round the clock.

The discontent between the Gaudiya Math and the local villagers has been brewing ever since the former completed the construction of the RishiDurvasa ashram about a year back. The Math actually rebuilt the ancient ashram - the place where Rishi Durvasa is believed to have performed his penance - with its own resources after the villagers approached them with such a request.

The Mathura-based Math collected about Rs 1.5 crore from its devotees worldwide to replace the small dilapidated temple with a massive three-storeyed marble structure. Even while the ashram was constructed, the villagers opposed changing the original name of Rishi Durvasa ashram to Durvasa Gaudiya Math ashram. A legal case over this matter, filed by the villagers against the Math is pending with the Mathura district court.

The court passed an interim judgement in the last week of May directing the Math to complete the construction of the ashram and place the idol of RishiDurvasa in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple within three months. In the wee hours of June 7, scores of Math followers arrived at the temple site and installed the ancient idol in the temple. But, along with Durvasa the sanyasis placed idols of Chaitanya Maharaphu, Lord Krishna and Radha in the sanctum sanctorum.

The villagers refused to accept the additions, and the two sides clashed with each other in the temple premises. Seven sadhus including three foreigners were injured. "The Math people have cheated us. They are promoting their Gods in the temple. Rishi Durvasa is not even placed in the Centre, he has been cornered by imposing idols of Krishna, Radha and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu," said HukumSingh, a local resident. Adds Sardar Singh: "At no point of time, we can bear the presence of other Gods in the temple other than Rishi Durvasa. It is his temple - the only one in the world. Krishna, Radha and Mahaprabhu can find place somewhere else," said Sardar Singh.

The Math has its own version. "How can we live without our guruji. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is our guru. We take him wherever we go. It is impossible that we manage this ashram and we do not have an idol of Mahaprabhu and Radha-Krishna," said Radha Madhav Das, the Math priest who performed the idol installation.

The previous head priest of the temple, 91-year-old Mahant Ram Kishan Das - who according to the Math handed over the total charge of the temple to it - now alleges cheating by the Math. "I served the ashram for the last 77 years. Now they have thrown me out of the temple. They do not even let me in and I am dependent on doles given by villagers," says Das. The Math is denying his allegations.

The Mutt has added a new angle to the controversy - the donations and offerings that come to the temple. The ashram is full of visitors from world - over throughout the year, especially during the month-long Basant-Panchami fair in February. "Now after we have spent Rs 1.5 crore in the temple, the villagers want to throw us out so they can take care of the donations. This is the main intention behind their agitation," said Premanand Prabhu of the Gaudiya Math. So far the deadlock continues. No compromises are forthcoming.

Villagers want to continue their battle in the court. The Math hopes for some solution when its head, Shripad Narayan Maharaj, returns from his world-tour in July. Tension prevails in Ishapur. The Gods, meanwhile, remain strictly guarded by police round the clock.

5) Krishnas Respond to "Gross Exagerations" in Law Suit,
By ISKCON Communications June 13, 2000 - Washington, D.C.:

A lawsuit alleging that child abuse occurred in the 1970's and 1980's at several parochial schools and temples affiliated with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), known as the Hare Krishna movement, was filed on June 12, 2000, in the Federal District Court in Dallas, Texas. The suit seeks $400 million dollars in damages.

"Mr. Turley has deliberately fabricated, distorted and misrepresented much of what actually occurred in order to conceal serious deficiencies in his case," said David Liberman, an ISKCON attorney. "As an attorney, he may be held accountable for that at the appropriate time in the future," Liberman said.

[PADA: Oh, for sooth! Like, are we worried now! Yes, all of you are liars! Ummm hmmm. Oh dear! And the GBCs are all saints! Ummm hmmm. Oh me, oh my, we are shaking in our booties over here! Of course on the other hand some have said that right now, at this juncture, they don't think that the GBC could save themselves from being prosecuted for stealing a rusty hubcap off of a Hyundai, what to speak of a case of this magnitude.]

6) INDIAN NEWSPAPER ACCOUNT OF LAWSUIT

Two of the books on the Hare Krishna movement stand out for their detailed narration of the power struggle and corruption in some chapters of the movement. The sordid events -- child abuse, sexual corruption and murders at New Vrindaban are the subject of the book Monkey on a Stick by John Hubner and Lindsay Gruson.

The controversial Hare Krishna leader, Kirtanananda, aka Bhaktipada, was fined $ 250,000 and slapped with a 20-year-old federal prison sentence for racketeering and conspiracy in two murders about four years ago. He was expelled from the Hare Krishna movement much before he was found guilty.

Nori J Muster joined ISKCON in 1978. She lived in the Krishnas' western world headquarters in Los Angeles and worked for 10 years as a public relations secretary and editor of the organization's newspaper, the ISKCON World Review. Her book, Betrayal of the Spirit, discusses international drug smuggling, arms caches, airport fundraising, child abuse, and assassinations within the mysterious group, as well as the dynamics that forced most of the group's original members to leave.

Muster's book is about the public relations nightmare of the decade following founder Swami Prabhupada's death. Disillusioned over continuing internal strife, in 1988 Muster left the world of saris, brass cymbals and institutional male chauvinism and returned to mainstream American life. Her story reads like a non-fiction suspense novel while she shows how an organization can quickly fall into dishonesty, deceit and hypocrisy.

7) Subject: Gurukuli lawsuit

Hare Krishna all,

I agree there must be now a purging of the old corrupt leadership. Srila Prabhupada's instructions should be the basis of the reform movement. As stated by Dasanudas, the member ship of any nonprofit religious corporation has the legal right to remove its leaders because nonprofit corporations are institutions meant to serve the needs of the community. There should be an organized petition presented to the GBC stating our demands for attainging the goal of an elected GBC as Srila Prabhupada outlined in his Direction of Management for the GBC. Therefore, a constituent assembly consisting of the current members of ISKCON (past and present Srila Prabhupada's disciples) should now come forward and do the needful, even another lawsuit if necessary. -
