Dear folks, PAMHO. AGTSP.

[PADA is an online newsletter going out to over 1,000 devotees and Hindu's. Please let us know if you have comments, or if you are not interested. We try our best to keep our mailing list in order. Jai Srila Prabhupada!]

Please let us know if you wish to add other addresses or cancel your subscription. PADA also may or may not endorse all of the statements found in our featured letters.

ALSO the names of the GBC as well as accounts of their activities are sometimes unverified at this point, we are merely allowing readers to express their experiences, and we encourage others, including those named, to feedback. Comments / corrections on the history section are also encouraged...

PADA EDITORIAL:

The lawsuit is being filed on behalf of some ex-gurukula victims and has not been made into a wider case. As the case unfolds more details of historical events might emerge, or they might not be allowed to emerge. As we have pointed out several hundred times, you have to hire a specialized lawyer yourself if you want specific issues to be sought in specific a case. No duh. Instead of doing that, we keep getting various sour grapes that certain specifics are wrong in Balavanta's poison case, the IRM case, this case, that case, or the case filed by the ex-gurukulis? So where is the big time lawsuit of the big time loud critics? PADA, for one, has already proposed, starting in 1997, that we unite and launch a poison lawsuit, perhaps a wrongful death lawsuit or such, to show that the GBC did not follow Srila Prabhupada. Yet as usual all of our big talkers walk away when we propose something practical to de-link Srila Prabhupada from the GBC? And then they blame isolated individuals like Pratyatosa for leaving undone the work that could only be done by a larger group effort. Simple. This is called sour grapes.

To pada:

Yes Mista HEIL HITLER & friends, we are the hounds of hell waiting for His Hooligan Mr. Ehrlichman & co pseudo gurus to come down to enjoy our nice hospitality here in HELL which he and his sweet colleagues so mercyfully forced upon our low selves. But beware - the hottest hell is reserved especially for people like you always uttering jaya to proud evil doers like Mr. Ehrlichman. We servants of Yama know the gita and the siksastaka prayers better than any of you so-called Vaishnavas feasting in "temples" that are like snake pits due to all your snake friends. Our master will make you understand.

2) BHAGAVAN DASA IS AMAZING
Hari Bol Prabhu:

Bhagavan's letter is simply amazing. Amazing. He wants to blame the victims? Typical demon-inspired tactic. The children's cries were either ignored or earned them more abuse. No one demanded justice for them. No one saw the wrong and the damage that was being done to these kids who were being emotionally, psychically, and physically damaged before their own personalities had developed properly. This type of abuse is often deliberately done to the very young by those involved in mind-control programs. The trauma fragments their fragile personality and creates Multiple Personality Disorder which makes it easier to program them as mind-control subjects.

It is my opinion that Bhagavan and company still have not come to grips with the horror of what they jointly inflicted upon these children, and the long term consequences of such personality shattering and damaging. There is no price tag that can be put on this type of crime. What the kids might recover through a court of law can never compensate them for the violation of their young bodies, the raping of their fragile minds and personalities and the stripping away of their trust. Some of the stronger ones have managed to survive and appear to be outwardly OK. Wounds heal, but deep scars must remain. And for the weaker ones, suicide is sometimes their only option.

Considering his role in the maiming of our children and the general dismantling of ISKCON, perhaps Bhagavan should keep silent and accept with all humility the punishment being meted out by the material energy, as Krsna's mercy. He claims that the horrible abuse suffered by the children was their karma. Great! There is no limit to the madness. Prabhupada set a standard of care for his young children, and those that were placed in charge of that care had certain responsibilities to discharge in that regard. Having failed abysmally to fulfill their responsibilities, they now have the gall to blame their criminal acts of commission and omission on the children's karma?

[PADA: Yes, one madman devotee told me it was ok to eat hamburgers, because the cows were just getting their karma so there was no karma for eating hamburgers. Of course one could argue that murder is ok since the victim is just getting their karma and so on. Not a solid argument?]

The cow-killing Kali took shelter of Pariksit Maharaja. His bad karma, getting his head chopped off, was staring him in the face. But his karma was changed because he sought the shelter of a devotee of Krsna. Many of them appearing in the womb of Prabhupada's new Western Vaisnavas, these ISKCON babies took shelter of Krsna's pure devotee, and of Lord Caitanya's sankirtana movement. If even Jagai and Madhai were absolved from all sins by taking shelter of Lord Nityananda, why couldn't the little ones be protected?

The answer is that these children had fallen into the lap of the demoniac consciousness that dominated their care givers and their superiors. There was no shelter for the children. There was also no shelter for many women, the innocent rank and file devotee and even the cows. This demoniac consciousness is still active in the Society and is intent on destroying it in so many ways in order to thwart the mission of Srila Prabhupada. As Srila Prabhupada warned, this Mission could only be destroyed from within.

Jesus Christ was betrayed by Judas. Does that mean that Jesus betrayed someone in a previous life? Does that even the score now? Srila Prabhupada was given poison. Does that mean that Prabhupada administered poison in a previous life? Bhagavan's letter is all nonsensical ramblings and it reveals nothing of the proper attitude of humility, contrition and repentance necessary in light of his "sterling" contribution to the current "joint mess". Let him now set the proper example to the rest of his errant peers by humbly accepting this as Krsna's purifying chastisement.

Had the kids been properly protected, no abuse would have occurred. Had the abusers been properly and timely prosecuted and not protected, pampered and promoted, today's multi-million dollar, ISKCON-melt-down lawsuit would be unnecessary. Now Pariksit Maharaja is again standing with drawn sword. There's fire in his eyes and thunder in his voice. This time he will not spare those who have attacked the little, helpless and unprotected Vaisnavas, using, among other things, their genitals as deadly weapons. This time the sword will fall and Kali's head will roll.

3) Bhagavan's letter (part two)

BD: I also propose that the abused children male or female actually put on the boxing gloves. You should let out your rage and shame upon your abusers and at least draw second blood.

[PADA: OK, but what about the GBC members who kicked out the good teachers like Dr. Sharma and placed instead a pedophile infrastructure, and then the leaders moved molesters, covered for molesters and so on? Shouldn't they get the glove treatment?]

BD: The perpetrators should hardly defend themselves so that they can experience what it is like to have pain inflicted upon someone who is defenseless. This would not be against the law. I am offering to put my skills at your service instead of Mr. Turley's.

[PADA: Your skills: waiting for 20 years to help the molestation issue?]

BD: I will organize the GBC, presidents, parents, lawyers, therapists and private investigators if needed to find your abusers.

[PADA: And what about the GBC members who forced the children to worship homosexual pedophiles? This is why we would say, "The GBC as a body are the founders of the enforced cult ritualistic worship of homosexual pedophiles, resulting is webs and nests of molesters, and as such the GBC as a body are responsible as parts and parcels of the molestation infrastructure." And those of us who objected to homosexual pedophile worship were branded as demons by most GBC members.]

BD: You can pay me as you see fit for any compensation you receive and in turn I will, in front of the Deities, pledge the money for any project that the gurukula students decide as a group is righteous.

[PADA: Problem, various GBC have already pledged "in front of the deities" to help the ex-gurukulis and they failed to do it.]

BD: I am asking nothing less than those involved in this case to withdraw before more disaster is created. Mr. Turley will still be able to pay his mortgage without your donation to his slush fund.

[PADA: Well, what about paying to help the gurukulis? That is the whole point you are missing? No one is trying to make another lawyer rich, this is concerning molestation and abuse and you are making a joke of it, and thus you are further victimizing the victims.]

BD: I am asking all gurukulis to communicate with those who are part of this case as well as those who want to do something to insure the future, which includes the reorganization of ISKCON itself.

[PADA: And that is why you sent copies of your letter to Tamal and Hridayananda, two of the worst culprits in harassing, slowing, halting, if not jack booting efforts to change things in ISKCON?]

BD: I call for a cessation of further violence...,

[PADA: Fat chance. There are goons all over ISKCON and they are not going to listen to you, Mr. Bhagavan, even if your plea is sincere. The goonda violence is a pattern that is way beyond your limited capacity to fix.]

4) Subject: Re: Is Pratyatosa Responsible?

Q. Why was Srila Prabhupada mentioned in the lawsuit? Is Pratyatosa Responsible? Was it Puranjana?

A. Absolutely not.

The attorneys probably read Dr. Burke Rochford's study, "Child Abuse in the Hare Krishna Movement: 1971-1986," which ISKCON itself published in the ISKCON Communications Journal, Vol. 6, No. 1, June 1998, pp. 43-70. Note the following excerpt by Rochford (approved by ISKCON):

It does seem clear from Prabhupada's letters that he was aware, as early as 1972, that physical punishment was being administered to children in the gurukula (See, e.g., Prabhupada 1992:797, 799). There is also evidence suggesting that he did intervene (Prabhupada 1992:797). In a 1972 letter to a disciple who had complained that her child was being mistreated in the gurukula in Dallas, Prabhupada wrote:

But you may be assured that I am always anxious about the welfare of my disciples, so that I am taking steps to rectify the unfortunate situation... [C]hildren should not be beaten at all, that I have told. They should simply be shown the stick strongly. So if one cannot manage in that way then he is not fit as a teacher....[H]e must have two things, love and education. So if there is beating of child, that will be difficult for him to accept in loving spirit, and when he is old enough he may want to go away--that is the danger (1992:793).

Yet physical punishment and various forms of abuse only escalated in the years to follow. Some former gurukula students believe that Prabhupada "...did not implement appropriate measures to guarantee the safety of children in his movement from his disciples. [And] that the programs he established and interpretations of his words greatly fostered an environment under which child abuse flourished" (Hickey et al. 1997). - Rochford

LOSS OF FAITH FOR FRENCH KRISHNAS

PARIS _ In the 1970s when exotic sects were reaping a rich harvest of converts in France, the followers of Krishna owned two castles, a number of other country houses and a vegetarian restaurant in Paris. Propagated by an Indian guru, the Krishna cult reached France by way of the United States in the late 1960s.

Shaven-headed young monks of various nationalities were to be seen dancing in Paris streets as they sold expensive copies of their bible, the Bhagavad-Gita, to passers-by attracted by their message of non-violence and rural simplicity. Today only one run down property, the Chateau d'Oublaisse in the Indre department of central France, shelters the last 35 believers, some of them children. With main water and electricity cut off, the sect faces a $16 million bill from the French tax authorities as well as claims from unpaid local tradesmen.

Seeing no way of avoiding disaster, some of the faithful have slipped away to found new communities. But financial troubles alone would not have decimated a closeknit body of 300 clergy and laity who ran their own school so their children would not be corrupted by the outside world. The event which broke the faith of many of the devotees was the sudden disappearance last summer of their spiritual director, Bhagavan Das. This young American high priest of the cult renounced the saffron robe of celibacy to return home and marry his American girlfriend.

According to leaders of the sect, he took with him $20,000 from their dwindling funds with a vague promise to give it back one day. The Canadian director of the international Krishna cult, Lucien Dupuis, religious name Vyshwambhar Das, who has stepped in to pick up the pieces says that Bhagavan's desertion in a time of crisis was "an absolute catastrophe" for the morale of the community.

He admits that the "gross negligence" of his predecessors over the three years is partly to blame for their present destitution. But he also accused the French government of hounding them. "We are a non-profitmaking religious movement, but the tax authorities insist on treating us as a commercial enterprise," Dupuis says.

The French tax authorities saw no reason to let the Krishna people get away with a tax-free sale of hundreds of thousands of holy books and other products of the labors of their flock. A nine year claim for back taxes put an abrupt end to the reckless spending of the Krishna clan. For some years now French public opinion and official policy have taken a tougher attitude to the new wave of religious sects. Parents have complained that their children were lured away and then brainwashed by under-feeding, lack of sleep, repetetively chanted prayers and promises of spiritual regeneration.

When a few months ago the Krishna community was forced to sell the imposing Chateau d'Ermenonville near Paris, local villagers rejoiced. When Krishna teachers opened a school for their children at their Oublaisse, local parliamentarians objected to shaven headed pupils being subjected to their parents regime of monotonous prayer. But ministry of education inspectors found that the Krishna children's studies were up to standard, and their afternoons, spent gardening and running in a 176 acre park, did them no harm. They appeared to thrive on their vegetarian diet. Although they were awakened at 4 a.m. to pray in the Krishna temple they were in bed by 6 p.m.

The most persuasive argument of critics of the school was that the children were completely sealed from any criticism of the beliefs of the adults around them. They were taught the value of repetetive litanies: their elders recited the same invocation to Krishna 1,728 times a day. Without television, radio or movies, they had no news or pictures of the outside world that were not served to them by their teachers. The occasional visits of some of the children to grandparents beyond the chateau park were more likely to plunge them into strife and incomprehension than to open new horizons.

The teachers pointed out that the children are also shielded from the worst of the modern world _ violence and drugs. And nothing prevents them, when they are older, from turning their backs on their upbringing. But finally loss of faith has hit the cult at a higher level. It often happens in sects that the rank and file are prepared to undergo hardship and poverty while their gurus live in luxury. But the charisma of their leader must never be in doubt. The robed Krishna zealots threw themselves face downwards on the ground when their American spiritual guide first appeared at the chateau in his BMW. But the way he vanished with _ they say _ the contents of the safe, opened the eyes of all but the most trusting worshipper. The last group of believers hope that when they have sold the chateau they will be allowed to stay on in the outhouses and continue growing their vegetables. But their neighbours would not be surprised if one day they quietly packed their statues and robes and disappeared.
