Here it is !! A non-partisan Petition. Worded and approved by the finest lawyers our spiritual family has to offer. This solicitation to the Indian Government has been so keyed, so as to offer an opportunity to all; suspicious and suspected. We are requesting disciples and followers of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, to sign the Petition when approached, and help us bring closure to the suspicions surrounding His disappearance.
To ISKCON'S GBC : "Sirs, your 2000 resolution on the "poison issue," has not been accepted by disciples and followers of His Divine Grace. In a single voice, they ask for a qualified and unbiased investigation into the death of our Acarya Deva. We request you to join our crusade by urging your followers to print the Petition below and secure signatures. This request goes out especially to Tamal Krsna G, Jayapataka S, Bhakticaru S, Jayadvita S, etc. This will cost you nothing while giving you a window to exonerate yourself. Should you fail to take this opportunity, it will only raise further doubts, and force us to begin a "gloves off" "no holds barred" campaign in the media. This is something ISKCON cannot afford and we have no wish to do unless forced to. Your decision to comply with our request should be made public on any one (or all three) of these websites within a fortnight of this posting. PADA, VNN, CHAKRA. A mail-box number for signed Petitions shall be duly posted.
Sirs, we request that you consider our offer with the utmost sincerity, it
will not be extended again.

Petition For Formal Government Inquiry
Into Circumstances Surrounding The Disappearance Of
His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
We, the undersigned, submit this Petition and formal request for an official Indian government inquiry into the highly suspicious circumstances surrounding the disappearance of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada.
Known worldwide as an unalloyed, pure devotee of Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada is the Founder/ Acarya of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, an internationally recognized spiritual institution with Temples throughout the world. As a renowned teacher and Sanskrit scholar, His Divine Grace authored over 100 books, including translations of Bhagavad-gita As It Is, Srimad Bhagavatam (30 volumes) and Sri Caitanya Caritamrita (30 volumes).
Acknowledged by millions as one of the most prominent and influential spiritual personalities to ever travel the globe, His Divine Grace was the foremost proponent of Krishna Consciousness in the West. He appeared in 1896 in Bengal and disappeared from our view in November of 1977, while in Vrindaban, India, under highly suspicious, and possibly illicit, circumstances.
After careful review of a plethora of evidence accumulated by devotees worldwide, it is the humble, but studied, collective opinion of the undersigned that the highly suspicious circumstances which surround the passing of His Divine Grace from this world now requires a full, formal and timely government investigation, if for no other reason than to clear those persons who would otherwise be implicated.
The specific evidence on which petitioners base their request is voluminous and will be made available to government investigators upon request. Suffice it to say, there exists an abundance of testimonial, forensic and circumstantial evidence, including: tape recordings of statements made by His Divine Grace as well as other persons; hair samples indicating possible arsenic poisoning; acoustic examination and analysis; and, medical records. All of this evidence, and more, points to the possibility of foul play by persons who arguably had the requisite motive, opportunity and capability.
Based on the fact that His Divine Grace was an Indian national and that His passing took place in India within the context of alleged foul play, absent a formal inquiry by the Indian government into this matter the undersigned petitioners have no adequate remedy available to them. The undersigned therefore respectfully implore the Indian government to grant this request to begin a formal inquiry into these serious allegations. Thank you for your time and attention.

Date: Fri, 15 Dec 2000 02:49:06 -0800 (PST)Thanks for printing my proposal on your lively site. I think that you were "born to be a thorn". But to do its dharma, a thorn must remain sharp. Therefore I caution you against repeating the same dull rhetoric about the "paedophile sampradaya" etc, and focus on positive ideas about the way forward. (end of sermon)
[PADA: We had to repeat, because even then, most did not hear. Of course one sector laughed at us, for example, when we and Sulochana used to come up and say, "oh nice, butt bugger gurus." The other sector did not laugh at all, and they wanted to kill us, but mostly, either they ignored us or they resisted? Little supported? We were also trying to avert the reactions like the child molestation itself, and things like the $400 million dollar lawsuit reaction, etc. over this pedophile issue. This is not some joke, rather, worship of pedophiles is very evil, and it will, and it has, created very unspeakable actions in its wake. And we will see more and more fallout from this for some time to come as well, until this molester beeja guru suk-session is routed out completely. Anyway, the lawsuit has woke up maybe fifty percentage of the devotees, many now agree (albeit some of them reluctantly) that pedophile pooja is bad, whereas we were only able to wake up maybe one percent with all of our repeating.
The only reason that the fifty percent has woke up is not because of us, that we repeated the message, and repeated, and repeated, no, it was no use. Only now that it has exploded on its own, and it is in the newspapers and TV are many devotees taking any notice. In sum, they still did not get it despite it was repeated, and repeated, ad infintum. Dull rhetoric is required for dim light bulbs, now see this, now see this, now see this, oh nevermind, just read the newspapers.... And now it is gradually hitting folks how serious this issue is, even the dimmest lghts are going, oh homosexual pedophile pooja, oh yea, not good. Right. Saw it on TV....]
Note: forwarded message attached. Please open after reading the letter below which I sent to my friend Brahmatirtha Prabhu, discussing objections to my earlier proposal. The attachment is a response to that.
Preface: as I was typing out the stuff below (and getting really tired) I realized that there is not really any philosophical gulf between us, rather we just support different strategies for dealing with the current crisis. I was tempted to just press the delete button but realize that since you took the trouble to respond so thoughtfully, I also owe you the same. But please dont feel obliged to consume your good time in carrying this any further. You have surely received a visitation from the Virgin Mary and adopted her wise advice on how to deal with these troubles ("Let it be"). As expected, none of the GBC members have responded to my letter (they know how to deal with a crank like me: ignore him). They always seem so busy and hard to reach, one starts to wonder if they dont live in their own separate dimension (the twilight zone?).
Otherwise, how is it that wherever one goes in their zone, they always seem to be somewhere else? This dimension must be far, far beyond the spiritual sky, because if you chant Hare Krsna, Krsna immediately appears on the tip of the tongue, yet no matter how much you call out: GBC, GBC, GBC they never respond (but like ghosts at a séance they manifest wherever there is a public function to open a temple that they did not build or any media function where photographers are present). The Internet is the biggest preaching facility since the invention of the printing press. Yet the voice of realization from our leadership is conspicuous by its silence. Why dont these guys preach?
I shouldnt criticize, these devotees are bound for the spiritual world. Vaikuntha is a big place, surely there is a planet where fat sannyasis go. The present is too nasty an era to live in. And the future holds little promise. So I have decided to go and live in the past. I am moving back to a sweeter age, prior to Nov 1977. Bye!
Dear Brahmatirtha Prabhu, thank you for your deeply considered response to my last letter. I have meditated on the substantial questions that you have raised. Being away from a computer, I cannot respond point by point (I'm not much for dissection, anyway) but rather to the larger issues, at least.
As you can imagine, I have been inundated by emails since my proposal was posted in cyberspace. The reactions range from stern condemnation, through reservation, to heartfelt congratulation. Gratifyingly, every letter received thus far from gurukulies themselves has been extremely welcoming and positive (I enclose a couple of heartwarming examples as attachments).
Thus far, most objections fall into two categories: 1) The suggestion is impractical. 2) Doubt about the existence of qualified Gurukulies. Since in your two letters, these and other objections are covered very comprehensively, I hope that by responding to your challenge I can satisfy most devotees doubts. Hopefully, after reading this letter you will have warmed a little to my idea, and will agree that at least the release of this proposal and the ensuing discussion can only have a beneficial effect on our society.
For the past two days I have been absorbed in reading Vaiyasaki Prabhu's vaiyasaki@kirtan.org utterly engrossing book titled: Radha-Damodar VilasThe inner life of Visnujana Swami and Jayananda Prabhu. This is actually a consummately written and researched devotional history of early ISKCON. Have you read it? I find that reading it brings tears of ecstasy to the eyes at almost every other page. (it should come packed with a box of Kleenex!) While reading it I realized that my proposal is not complete! Prepare to be BLOWN AWAY by the explosive proposal further in this letter. But first let me address the two prime objections to my original proposal.
1) Practicality There are bound to be devils lurking in the details of implementing any sweeping change. Yet we see that entire nations manage a complete change of administration on a regular basis with little disruption to the life of their citizens (the current U.S. election debacle notwithstanding). Sometimes newly formed political parties (such as the BJP in India) are elected which have little or no administrative experience, yet we see that they "rise to the occasion" and fulfill their new role in a manner exceeding all expectation. So why should we think that it would be so overwhelming a task to bring the next generation into the management of our small society. I realize that my proposal does not address the complex mechanics or timetable for such a transfer of power. Neither, do I posses the qualifications or inclination to chart out a detailed scheme. Let those who will be directly effected, namely the current management and the gurukuli community develop a workable plan co-operatively. I am only interested in establishing the urgent need for such a transition, and the reviving effect it will have on the Krsna Consciousness movement, and it's reputation.
My simple question is: if not nowwhen? The longer we postpone this transitionthe more problematic it will become. The perfect example of the effect of resistance to change can be found in the British monarchy. That decrepit old cowthe queen (no offense to cows intended) refuses to step down from the throne and pass it on to her son, prince Charles. Now he is also growing old, ugly and bald (no offense). Many people now suggest that the crown should bypass him altogether and be handed directly to his son. Is it right if almost a whole generation of devotees is similarly deprived of their right to meaningful participation in Lord Caitanyas movement?
You voiced concerns about pandering to 'victim consciousness'. Forgive me for saying that this whole train of thought is unworthy of a magnanimous personage like your self. It can only result in the further alienation of our youth. I am reminded of the man speaking to his psychiatrist: "Just because I'm paranoid doesnt mean that they're not out to get me." Even though a small fraction of former students may be wallowing in exaggerated woe, there are far more who have minimised the injustices that they have endured, With many, nothing untoward happened. But all gurukulies sympathize deeply with those that endured the worse abuse. Mostly they just want an open admission of the truth and a sincere gesture of atonement. Nobody will be happy with a policy of business as usual.
2) The Question of Qualification You ask if I am promoting a kind of cast consciousness, or qualification by birth, whereby those born of devotee parents automatically inherit a post within ISKCON. Actually, Srila Prabhupada did say that those born into this movement should not be seen as ordinary persons. Rather they are great souls sent to complete their training in Krsna consciousness and then take the lead in establishing it all over the world. So in a sense, in this instance, birth is a kind of qualification. Every living entity always has free will, so the advantage of a devotee birth can be neglected and therefore such a qualification may be spoiled. Therefore, birth is only a 'potential' qualification.
Anyone who has gotten to know devotee children (of any age) will bear witness to the fact that they are the most intelligent, beautiful, talented, and thoughtful young people on the planet. That said, please note that I never mentioned birth in my proposal. I talked about 'Gurukula Graduates'. (I use the term 'Graduates' in a broadly respectfull sense, and apply it to anyone that attended an ISKCON gurukula, regardless of whether they received a certificate of graduation). If attending an institution where tapasya, devotion, and learning and many other character building disciplines were inculcated over many years is not considered a 'qualification' to lead our society, then what was the purpose of gurukula training in the first place?
One devotee wrote me to emphasize the point that senior management positions require men of wisdom, and that wisdom only comes of experience. He appeared not to realize the inherent 'catch 22' of his statement. I once heard a radio program about the greatest conspiracy ever carried out (at least until the faked moon landing). It was code-named "the Manhattan project"a plan to build the first atom bomb by the Americans in the early 40's. It was by far the most expensive undertaking ever for the U.S. government, costing billions of dollars. There were many thousands of scientists secretly engaged in bringing, what was then an unproven theorynamely the splitting of the atominto a most deadly and tangible reality. Tragically for the future of the world, they were spectacularly successful. When I listened to the story of this conspiracy the thing that struck me as being the most amazing was the mean age of the scientists when they began work on the project: twenty four years old!
As far as the importance of experience is concerned, I rest my case. A wise man gains experience by hearing. A number of devotees wrote me to point out that many of our gurukula graduates have strayed from the path of strict sadhana bhakti and become entangled in material life. Therefore the worry is that there may not be enough of them who are fixed up to fill the important positions, even if they were to be made available to them. While it is an unpalatable fact that many of our youth have at some point succumbed to the temptations of their age, and even experimented with intoxicants, I believe that the period of rampant rebelliousness is largely over. Many of our youth are getting married, having children and taking a renewed interest in responsible Krsna conscious practice.
It can also be argued that it is the very lack of opportunity for challenging, meaningful engagement within our society that is directly responsible for the disillusionment of many of our youth. I suggest that 16 or 18 years of exposure to Krsna conscious practice and environment has had an indelible effect in softening their hearts. If some of them have a thin crust of maya covering that softness, it can immediately crumble away if they are nicely engaged.
Apart from that, there are many gurukula graduates who are following strictly. The gurukula graduates know each other better than we know themtherefore I suggested a World Congress of Gurukula Graduates where they can put forward the most qualified amongst themselves as candidates for leadership positions in ISKCON. Out of the thousands of graduates, there are many that have already dedicated themselves to Srila Prabhupadas mission, and many more that would do so if given the opportunity. Most of us, Srila Prabhupadas initiated disciples, have fallen from the strict practice of sadhana bhakti at some time or another, Yet the community of devotees has always accepted us back with open arms as soon as we rededicated ourselves to following nicely. Should we not extend that same forgiveness and acceptance to our younger generations.
Other Concerns: You point out that it has become difficult to even define the movement, due to fragmentation. This is due to political infighting. Granted problems and disputes have always been present in ISKCON, as in any society, even while we were under Srila Prabhupadas personal guidance. Yet they have seldom had serious permanent effect on the public perception of our society. The revelations of rampant child abuse within ISKCON that have appeared widely in the worlds media are in a class of their own. There is no issue more emotive than the mistreatment of children. There is permanent damage to ISKCONs reputation that will become more severe as these court cases and media extravaganzas continue. The past cannot be changed, but it will be noted how we deal with this issue now that it has been exposed. Even in ordinary western society, if an administration, be it corporate or governmental, is implicated in a major scandal, gross corruption or mismanagement they are expected to resign and allow a new and untainted administration to be installed.
Some kind of restitution or attonement to those damaged most is necessary for reconciliation. I believe that my proposal, radical as it may seem, is the only way to satisfy both the public and our Gurukula graduates. It is a chance to grasp honor from the jaws of infamy. A New Proposal: As I mentioned at the beginning of this long winded letter, I felt that the acceptance of the he the helm of ISKCON by our Gurukula graduates is only one half of a plan to revitalize our preaching movement. I alluded to another, complementary proposal that would "blow you away". And so it will. Can you guess what it is?
You mentioned that ISKCON has become a movement without community, and that Alachua is a community without a movement. I noted when visiting there recently that there were many Prabhupada disciples, mostly grhasthas such as your good self who were strictly following their Krsna Conscious vows and attending temple functions. Everything seemed to be going on so nicely that it appeared almost too perfect. And I think it is too perfect. Therefore I want to throw a spanner in the works. Ready?
(drum roll please---dan...da ..da ..danda ..) There are many senior married couples in Alachua (as well as the rest of the movement) whose children have now grown up (as have your two boys). It is my firm belief that Srila Prabhupada will be very pleased, and the whole vaisnava community will be incredibly enlivened if all such senior, experienced men like yourself, accepted the order of sannyasa in a mass ceremony to coincide with the handover of power to the next generation. Visualize a gigantic fire yajna where 108 Gurukula graduates accept their new managerial positions in ISKCON and 108 senior men simultaneously take up the renounced order for unbridled preaching.
I realize that you may now be thinking that the flattery in your last letter has gone to my head. Nevertheless, I beg to remind you of Chanakya Pandits maxim that "you can take gold from a low place and accept good counsel from a shitty person (or something like that)." So please consider this proposal seriously, disregarding the unqualified source. I know that many other stalwart vaisnavas such as Narada Muni, Stoka Krsna, Rupanuga, Dravinaksha, Grahila, Balavanta and Kirtiraja, to name just a few in Alachua alone, with many more worldwide, have long hankered to please Srila Prabhupada by preaching pure Krsna Consciousness, uninhibited by material obligations. That opportune time has come to pass.
Please weigh the merits of this suggestion on its own, even if you still
reject my proposal vis-a-vis the Gurukula grads.
Om Tat Sat
Dear Aravinda Prabhu, Please accept my humble obeisance's. All glories to Srila
Prabhupada.
Your article on Cakra was very enthusing and should be put into place. I am now
28 years of age and been through several Gurukula's and am currently serving at
the temple in Sydney, Australia as it's treasurer.
I am also the manager of the Australian BBT here in Sydney. I agree, It is now time for the GBC and Temple president to move aside and give their positions to good standing Gurukulis, otherwise Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON movement will continue to disappear. Giving the positions of service to the new generation of ISKCON leaders cannot do the society any more damage than we are currently experiencing.
Your servant,
