Dear folks, PAMHO. AGTSP.

[PADA is an online newsletter going out to over 1,000 devotees and Hindu's. Please let us know if you have comments, or if you are not interested. We try our best to keep our mailing list in order. Jai Srila Prabhupada!]

Please let us know if you wish to add other addresses or cancel your subscription. PADA also may or may not endorse all of the statements found in our featured letters.

ALSO the names of the GBC as well as accounts of their activities are sometimes unverified at this point, we are merely allowing readers to express their experiences, and we encourage others, including those named, to feedback. Comments / corrections on the history section are also encouraged..

PADA'S MOST WANTED LIST: Keep us apprised of the whereabouts of Jayapataka, Tamal, Hridayananda and other GBC, thanks.

IMPORTANT NOTICE OF CHANGE OF E-MAIL ADDRESS

PADA's editor will not be able to as regularly access the e-mail address "angel108b@yahoo.com" due to sometimes travelling and visiting various devotees etc. As such, please do not send us your ongoing blessings, news items, comments, assassination plots against the pada editor, and so on and so forth, to the "pada@neteze" address any longer, we may not see them as regularly. Rather, we will be accessing messages much more regularly sent to to: angel108b@yahoo.com, as this is the address we concocted for a business and also accessing the "vaishnava council." So we decided to consolidate all our incoming mails at present to that address. Also, we will be sometimes using other people's computers, so by using this yahoo address we can then receive and send from any location. We will also still be gathering items together and sending them out via the newsletters from pada. But, to write to us, use the above address please! I will also be on a phone pager, 707-973-0372. Thanks, your eternal servant,

1) A QUESTION from pada

Eventually, by say 1993, Gaura Govinda Maharaja was himself at loggerheads with the GBC. He was saying at that time that the jiva souls originate in the brahmajyoti, since no one ever falls from the platform of pure devotion. Of course, this totally contradicts GGM's Guru Tattva booklet wherein he says that gurus become asuras. If gurus become asuras, then he is simultaneously making a contradiction.

In any event, this idea, that the soul originates in the brahmajyoti, was also taught earlier in 1981 by Jayatirtha and his then Gaudiya Matha colleagues. So, GGM was threatening that he was going to expose ISKCON GBC as frauds for not accepting the view that the soul originates in the brahmajyoti, by linking with other movements to get support for that view. He gave the GBC a one year deadline to accept his view "or else." Then he died mysteriously at Mayapura.

Two of his disciples then called me at that time to ask if we head heard that there was a plot to poison the maharaja? And they wanted to get his body and have it autopsied, but his body had been already intercepted by Jayapataka's followers immediately. And so, we were not really in a position to help them, although we did point out the problem in our newsletters at the time. In in any event, if others know more of the history of these debates between GGM and the GBCs let us know, as we are writing these histories in our history of ISKCON book.

thanks puranjana dasa

2) LOCANANANDA WRITES

Dear Prabhus,

Thank you for allowing me to present my angle of vision as a series of letters to the assembled vaisnavas. I hope that if I can present a little bit each day, the continuity will not be lost.

The proposal that initiations would be performed by officiating acaryas was the adjustment Srila Prabhupada considered necessary to spread Krishna consciousness throughout the entire world. As the empowered vaisnava acarya, Srila Prabhupada was exercising his prerogative to introduce whatever means were required to accomplish his mission. That the pure devotee is authorized to make such adjustments in standard procedures is confirmed in the Srimad Bhagavatam (4.8.54 purport):

"Srimad Viraraghava Acarya, an acarya in the Ramanuja-sampradaya, has remarked in his commentary that candalas, or conditioned souls who are born in lower than sudra families, can also be initiated according to circumstances. The formalities may be slightly changed here and there to make them vaisnavas." The key phrase is that "The formalities may be slightly changed". There is no mention of a major overhaul of the parampara system. It must be kept intact, although minor changes may be introduced according to time, place and circumstance at the discretion of the acarya.

In another place Srila Prabhupada wrote, "The spirit of the disciplic succession may not be changed, but there may be adjustments made to suit the special circumstances." (Letter to Sivananda 1-23-69)

The concept of having initiations performed by officiating acaryas after his physical disappearance is perfectly in tune with Srila Prabhupada's description of how formalities may be slightly adjusted without changing the spirit of the disciplic succession. Regarding the parampara system, he taught that we should all "pick up the prominent acarya and follow from him" because "disciplic succession does not mean one has to be directly a disciple of a particular person." Whoever accepts the teachings of Srila Prabhupada accepts him as preceptor, as spiritual master and as the eternal father. When one is convinced that the purpose of life is to become Krishna conscious and return back to Godhead, he is qualified to be initiated by an officiating acarya acting on Srila Prabhupada's behalf.

Regarding the question of worship, Srila Prabhupada's instructions always seemed to discourage making external distinctions between higher and lower devotees. In a letter to Brahmananda dated 8-30-69, he stated, "For the present moment, nobody can claim any extra honor from his godbrothers. Everyone should treat his godbrothers as prabhu. But nobody should try to claim any extra honor on account of an official position."

The system of initiations followed today in Iskcon is in total violation of this principle. At one point, worship of the guru by his own godbrothers was mandatory for a devotee to be considered in good standing. Now, only the disciples are required to worship their chosen guru as absolute, but this continues to expand the existing fracture in the foundation of the society. To distinguish that "I shall chose one disciple of Srila Prabhupada to worship as a pure devotee" was a mentality never approved by His Divine Grace. He could foresee how this way of thinking would produce factions and break up his institution just as had happened in the Gaudiya Math.

Tusta Krishna Prabhu thought of Siddhasvarupa alone as a pure devotee and wanted to accept his authority as absolute. Srila Prabhupada tried to correct his outlook by writing, "Anyone who is surrendered to the spiritual master is a pure devotee. All of my disciples are pure devotees. As soon as we distinguish, 'Here is a pure devotee, here is a non-pure devotee,' that means I am a nonsense. Do not try to make a faction. If anyone thinks that a pure devotee should be obeyed and no one else, that means he is a nonsense."

Srila Prabhupada said that the initiation ceremony was a formality. Absolute authority was never vested in those he selected to perform initiations. The potency and authority of his books, lectures, letters and conversations, by definition, can never be challenged or surpassed by any bone fide representative of the acarya. To facilitate people coming to Krishna consciousness and engaging in devotional service, Srila Prabhupada devised a program by which they could also be initiated anywhere in the world and activate their connection to the guru parampara. He called the initiators officiating acaryas. He did not refer to them as diksa gurus, Iskcon gurus, family gurus or imperial wizards. They were simply meant to act on his behalf as transparent via media. Unfortunately, pride overcame them and they turned a deaf ear to the order of the guru. This is always a disatrous course of action since no good can come from disregarding his order. As His Divine Grace wrote,

"Following the order of the bona fide spiritual master is the only duty of the disciple, and this completely faithful execution of the order of the bona fide spiritual master is the secret of success." We know that he ordered officiating acaryas to perform initiations after his departure, but where is the order to establish the election of diksa gurus by majority vote?

2) TO SRI RAMA

Dear Srirama Das and other GBC restructure devotees. Obeisances. AGT Srila Prabhupada. Hoping to help I write you. The view you'll read, represents a lot of devotees and followers of Srila Prabhupada. I suspect that many of them like even myself, did not read your proposal at first, after statements such as, "calls for RADICAL ACTIONS as for mass-resignation of the GBC or the adoption of RIKVIKSM have increased". This clearly shows that you are not at all versed in the most important principle of Vaishnavism, which is the Sampradaya Acarya.

This principle is addressed in the 7 days and nights discussion that Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu had with Ramananda Raya (Arjuna) in which the Raya did not please the Lord until he said that pure association was the most important principle. If we study further, the pure association they refer to is that of a Mahajana, a great great personality. Bhaktivinod Thakur also explains that the most important principle in vaishnavism is the "Founder Acarya" of the Sampradaya, in one of his books. (The Holy Name) He says that the second most important principle is the developement of attachment for chanting. He says that if a devotee follows these two principles, then nothing else is relevant and the devotee will enter the spiritual world. I researched a bit about the mahajana devotee in our tradition and in others, and compared the findings.

I found that these devotees are generally predicted by scriptures and other mahajana devotees. This is certaily the case in the birth of Mohamad, Jesus, other great prophets and saits, and clearly in the case of Srila Prabhupada who is predicted in the Caitanya Mangala of the 17th century where its stated: a "senapati bhakta" , a great general devotee will appear and take the maha mantra all over the world. Of course, Srila Bhaktivedanta Maharaja also said: he, (Srila Prabhupada) will do everything". I also found that the Sampradaya Acarya is generally born in a family of devotees. Jesus Christ and Srila Prabhupada are good examples. Also they generally engage in devotion at an early age.

Many examples here that again include Srila Prabhupada. Srila Prabhupada states in purpport of S.B 1-1-7, that the spiritual mater is fully conversant in all systems of philosophy before sitting on the vyasasana. The guru Srila Prabhupada teaches, is not voted in and has to have the order of his guru to be Acarya. Another quality is that the mahajanas are equal with their mercy and compassion toward all living enteties, not just to their yes men. In addition to the 26 qualities of a devotee which they manifest fully, I found another 18 qualities. They travel a lot, they often write many books, turn many to devotion, establish centers of worship.

A quality that the CC says a mahajana has to have, otherwise he can not be considered a mahajana, is that he has to go againts the previous scriptures, gurus and rishis. I was not able to find this particular part in the CC, this time, but the following verse is in Madhya-lila 7 Ch17 tx 186. "Dry argument is inconclusive. A great personality whose opinion does not differ from others, is not considered a great sage. Simply by studying ther Vedas which are variegated, one can not come to the right path by which religious principles are understood. The solid truth of religious principles is hidden in the heart of an unadulterated self-relized person.

Consequently, as sastras confirm, one should accept whatever progressive path the MAHAJANAS ADVOCATE". The same verse is spoken in Madhya-lila 9 Ch 25 text 57. It's also found in purports of Adi-lila 2 Ch 7 text 169, in Madhya-lila 9 Ch 8 text 312 and Madhya-lila 4 Ch 9 text 195. I recall reading that the mahajana or Sampradaya Acarya has such authority, because he is so pure that the Lord who is relating with him at all times within the heart, tells him ecxatly what to do according to time and circumnstance. Of course we have known cases such as Lord Buddha who rejected the vedas all together, Jesus Christ, who taught a new doctrine, Caitanya Mahaprabhu who danced like a madnan, Bhaktivedanta Sarasvati who rode in a car and rejected the smartas, and Srila Prabhupada who left India, initiated women. performed marriages being in the renounced order etc. He did these things and had the authority to do them because he is a mahajana, and these things were dictated to him by Lord Krishna from within the heart.

I wish I had all the material about it for you since it's very sweet, maybe someone with veda base can find it. The thing is that neither ISKCON nor you have studied or understood the most important principle which in our case is Srila Prabhupada, and the top most need to follow all his directives and intructions since he is the mahajana. The most important of these, is that Srila Prabhupada did not authorize for gurus in ISKCON. Srila Prabhupada taught us that Bhaktisiddhanta Swasmi Maharaja also did not authorize gurus but only a GBC. Srila Prabhupada never gave the order for gurus, what to speak of gurus voted in. He made it clear in his taped May 28th 77 conversation, that devotees can be regular gurus when he orders, an order that never came. He made it totally clear in his directive of July 9th 77 that after his passing, he would still be the Acarya and would continue to accept disciples.

You have not read these? His last will also supports this directive. He also said that's better to not take disciples. This is the main factor and problem with ISKCON that's has caused and continues to cause untold karma and suffering. Krishna is most pleased when Srila Prabhupada is worshiped and his instructions and directives followed, and most displeased when that worship and attention is instead given to conditioned souls such as ISKCON "gurus". It's totally inconsevible to me and my godbrother friends, that still today, it's obvious that devotees are toyally uninformed and lack Vaishnava understanding and that in this condition, are trying to propose for reform.

You don't mention in your proposal Srila Prabhupada's DOM (Direction of Management)!! But what's the use of following even the DOM, if you will promote condition souls officially (GBC resolution) to be accepted and worshiped as good as Krishna? What good will anything do if the most important principle in the Vaisnava tradition (Srila Prabhupada) is not being followed? The answer is obvious, continued dissaster. You don't know of the murder of Sulocan Das, and so many other serious criminal acts of ISKCON "gurus"? In the minds of many, your proposal makes one think that perhaps at least some of the eighty authors are thinking of themselves as a type of special guru, and some may be aspiring to one day to be "sampradaya acaryas". In fact and unfortunately, I have no doubt that at least some individuals in your group are thinking in this life to take this post.

This is most dangerous, since Srila Prabhupada did not authorize this, but of the contrary, this trend has become famous as the DGD (dreaded guru disease) which is more deadly than the AIDS virus. My suggestion, is that you be very careful to see that this virus not kill your devotional creaper. I further suggest that you all study carefuly The Final Order, and other literature such as The Betrail, and Our Living Guru, and books such as Living Still in Sound. For history of the false gurus catastrophy, I suggest you read Monkey on a Stick, The Guru Business, Betrail of the Spirit and Someone Has Poisoned Me. This last book points at another "quality" of the mahajanas, that is that oftentimes attemps on their lives are made. Good examples are Haridas Thakur, Phralad, Jesus and many more. Except for Monkey on a Stick, which is about murders in ISKCON, these literatures are based on and full of Srila Prabhupada quotes. I also suggest that devotees be particularly attentive of develoments regarding the possibility that Srila Prabhupada was poisoned with arsenic.

There is an in part secret committee doing studies to find the truth about this. You should be concerned and supportive of the investigation since already, studies of hair samples of Srila Prabhupada have scientifically shown many times the amount of mormal levels of arsenic. You should also be alert at developements of a legal case that aims at reinstituting Srila Prabhupada as the only diksa guru in ISKCON in India. The situation is simple for the simple, and there is plenty of evidence from Srila Prabhupada. You follow and accept Srila Prabhupada's directives on Guru first, and then there is hope. If you promote insted false and even criminal gurus who are for changing Srila Prabhupada's books and all kinds of other nonsense, then there is zero hope. We have to get rid of any desire to be diksa guru, then there is hope, if not, then there will only be caos. Please try to take up some of this advice at least, If you do then devotees will take you seriously, if not, I assure you, you will not have success with many of us and in your lives.
Thanks for your attention. AGT Srila Prabhupada.

Mahatma Das
